Legend of Mana Faerie%: Huntin’ Du’Cate
This is part of a first-playthrough guide using the Faerie story arc. It covers both the original PSX version and the 2021 HD remaster, though some place and item names differ slightly in the latter. You can find an overview of the Faerie% path here.
The Quick Version
Place the Artifacts you got from Teatime of Danger. If you felt undergeared for the boss fight in the Mindas Ruins, it may be worth visiting Polpota Harbor and checking whether there are better weapons and armor available. The Flowerling at the top of the shopping plaza (left dot on town map) will likely have gear that is one tier better than what you found in Lumina or Gato Grottoes.
Either way, the next quest begins in the Jungle. There, you’ll meet a bunch of weirdos from Geo who are trying to hunt a beast known as Du’Cate. Seek out a magic spell to avoid getting lost, follow said weirdos through the undergrowth to meet the Wisdom Rosiotti, then work together to find Du’Cate at last. You’ll be rewarded with the Sand Rose Artifact.
The Details (May Contain Spoilers)
Each of the story arcs in Legend of Mana has at least one “maze” zone, and the Jungle is definitely the maziest part of the Fairy arc. Here’s what to do, step by step, after the opening dialogue.
For the Magic Spell: Go up from the entrance to the Southern Section (HD: Southern Jungle), then up again to the Western Section (HD: Western Jungle). Next take the lower left exit to meet Skippie (scrawny weirdo) and head left to Greenwood Gardens. After the fight in this room, a penguin will appear and cast a spell on you so you don’t get lost.
To Reach Rosiotti: From Greenwood Gardens, go right, right, left, and up to reach a room in the Southern Section (Southern Jungle) with a chest on-screen when you enter. Go right again to meet Hamson (stout weirdo). Go to the upper right, talk to Hamson, and follow him up to reach the Forested Ruins. Here, Skippie and Hamson argue for a bit and Hamson runs off. Talk to Skippie, then go to the upper left to reach Rosiotti’s Throne.
Working Together: Talk to Rosiotti, who suggests working together to catch Du’Cate. Go to the lower right (back to Forested Ruins) and proceed to the lower left to reach the Forest of the Faeries. The Faeries don’t like you and will send you back to the start of the zone, but this is a good thing as it spares you some backtracking. Go up to the Southern Section (Southern Jungle) and talk to Skippie (“Work with him”/”Team up”), then go right and talk to Hamson (“Work with him”/”Work together”). Go right, talk to Skippie, follow him to the upper right, and then follow both Skippie and Hamson right into Du’Cate’s Territory. From here, just keep heading right until you reach the Spring of the Beasts and find the boss.
