Legend of Mana Faerie%: The Murmuring Forest
This is part of a first-playthrough guide using the Faerie story arc. It covers both the original PSX version and the 2021 HD remaster, though some place and item names differ slightly in the latter. You can find an overview of the Faerie% path here.
The Quick Version
Place the Sand Rose that you got from Huntin’ Du’Cate. Now jump right back into the Jungle. As before, we need a “don’t get lost” spell before we can fully explore the Jungle. Once that’s been cast, head to Rosiotti’s throne and talk to penguin Selkie to initiate the quest, which involves figuring out what the faeries are up to. Go through the Forest of the Faeries to learn of their plans and fight a demonic interloper. No Artifact is awarded for the quest.
The Details (May Contain Spoilers)
Several zones in Legend of Mana have a “starter event”: a quest that is triggered merely by entering the zone, and that must be dealt with before any story quests going through the zone can be completed. For the Jungle, this quest is Huntin’ Du’Cate, which we just completed.
Reentering the Jungle, you’ll find there’s now a Flowerling offering teleportation services in the entrance room. Take him up on his offer and go to the Courtyard of Rain. Fight the Zombines in that room. A penguin will appear and cast a spell on you so you don’t get lost. Go down to the Southern Section (HD: Southern Jungle), then left to a room with some faeries and left again to return to the Jungle Entrance.
Talk to the Flowerling again; this time, warp to the Forested Ruins. From there, go to the upper left to reach Rosiotti’s Throne. Talk to the penguin named Selkie (at the right of the screen) and agree to help investigate the faeries’ behavior (dialogue: “Yes,” “Yes”).
At this point, you’ll finally see the title card for The Murmuring Forest. Go to the lower right (back to Forested Ruins), then to the lower left (Forest of the Faeries). This time, the faeries will be too preoccupied to kick you out of their forest, and a cutscene will play out instead. After the cutscene, it’s up to you whether you talk to the NPCs left in the room. In either case, head left, upper left, and left to reach a miniboss: a green demon called the Punkmaster. Defeat the Punkmaster to end the quest.
