Legend of Mana Faerie%: Mine Your Own Business
This is part of a first-playthrough guide using the Faerie story arc. It covers both the original PSX version and the 2021 HD remaster, though some place and item names differ slightly in the latter. You can find an overview of the Faerie% path here.
The Quick Version
Go to the Ulkan Mines (which you opened up by placing the Bottled Spirit Artifact a while back). Find Pokiehl in the workshop of the blacksmith Watts, then go looking for Watts in the depths of the Mines. Rescue him, and yourself, from a dangerous monster to complete the quest and receive the Moon’s Mirror Artifact.
The Details (May Contain Spoilers)
From the entrance room of the Ulkan Mines, go right, then up through the doorway by the treasure chest to get to Watts’s Workshop (HD: Watts’s Shop). Talk to Pokiehl (the birdman in the vaguely Uncle Sam-looking outfit) to trigger the quest.
To find Watts, exit the workshop and go:
- lower right, down the stairs, and through the doorway at the bottom of the stairs (Underground Level 1)
- lower left, down another flight of stairs, and through the doorway to reach a room with a Save Statue
- upper left (Underground Level 2)
- upper left twice more to reach the stairs (Underground Level 1)
- and keep heading leftward along the path, which is linear from this point on
You’ll arrive in a boss room with a plant-like creature hanging from the ceiling, but you need to talk to Watts three times before the boss will attack you. Defeat the boss (Labanne) by repeatedly breaking off and fighting its two claw-like appendages. Watts returns to the workshop, Pokiehl tells a story (sort of), and the quest concludes.
