This is part of a first-playthrough guide using the Dragon story arc. It covers both the original PSX version and the 2021 HD remaster, though some place and item names differ slightly in the latter. You can find an overview of the Dragon% path here.
The Quick Version
At this point, we’ve completed the Dragon story arc and done enough sidequesting to bring us to the endgame. Place any Artifacts you haven’t yet placed from those quests, then go Home. You may have to exit and reenter Home before you see a dialogue involving some Sproutling and Li’l Cactus. Follow Li’l Cactus into the house and speak with it, then go to the workshops back of your house to trigger a series of conversations about the Mana Tree. Eventually, Nunuzac will transport you to a black-and-white dream world. Follow the path through the cave (it’s linear) to collect the missing Sproutling and the Sword of Mana Artifact.
The Details (May Contain Spoilers)
This one’s pretty straightforward, but there are a couple of points that might be easy to miss:
- The quest won’t progress until you talk to Li’l Cactus after his initial scene with the Sproutlings.
- You have to leave the Workshops after the dialogue there, then return with Pokiehl (the flamboyantly dressed birdman out front) to continue.
- To access the dream world and retrieve the Sproutling, talk to Nunuzac again after his chat with Pokiehl.
Beyond that, this quest is really just exposition plus an excuse to let you place the Tree of Mana where you want it on the map.
I’m not seeing the starting dialogue for this quest.
Sometimes, even if you’ve completed a major arc and have enough Artifacts placed, you have to leave Home and reenter before the quest cutscene will start. As best I can tell, this has to do with how the game prioritizes the handful of quests that can start at Home.
